Keeping up with our tradition of spending Thanksgiving in a tropical place, this year we’re going back to Polynesia — to beautiful Fiji!
As always, we’re taking advantage of the holiday and weekends so that you only have to take three days off work but still go on an eight-day vacation to one of the most beautiful places on earth. Flights from the U.S. arrive at 5:00 am and leave at 10:00 pm, so we actually have eight full days to enjoy. There are direct flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco, and easy connections from many other U.S. cities. This couldn’t be easier!
We’ll be based on the Coral Coast of Viti Levu, where we’ll have the best of everything — beautiful beaches, far from the crowded areas, yet close enough to easily access all the activities.
November is one of the best times to go — it’s the transition between the dry and wet seasons. Temperatures are warm, the water is warm and clear, and although we might get an occasional tropical shower, we’re likely to see sun most of the day, every day.
Here are just some of the amazing things we’ll do — or have the chance to do:
Snorkel at some of the most beautiful beaches in the world
Stay at a resort right on the beach
Hike to a waterfall
Go horseback riding on the beach (one of the coolest things ever!)
Take a full-day sailing trip through tropical Polynesian islands
Enjoy fun adventure activities like jet skiing, ziplining, rappelling, cave exploring, whitewater rafting, river tubing, jet boating, and ATV
Have a special Thanksgiving Fijian dinner
And just relax by the pool or the beach, drink in hand, soaking in paradise — because you deserve it!
Bula! Welcome to Fiji, one of the most beautiful places in the world!
All the U.S. flights arrive at Nadi Airport between 5:00 am and 5:40 am. We’ll all meet at the airport and hop on our shuttle to the resort, about 2 hours away.
We should arrive at the resort around 9:00 am. Our rooms won’t be ready yet, but we can store our luggage securely, change into our bathing suits, go lay by the pool or the beach, and grab something to eat.
At 11:00 am, we’ll go on a snorkeling tour at Naidiri Marine Biodiversity Park (included). Nothing like starting a fun trip snorkeling at a marine park. 🙂
We should be back by 3:00 pm, when we can check in to our rooms and once again hang out by the pool, head to the beach, walk around the village, or just rest. Hard life…
At 7:00 pm, we’ll meet at the lobby to go have dinner together in the village.
Accommodations: Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa

Today we have a free day at the resort, or at 8:30am we can go on an optional tour to the iconic Biausevu Waterfall. We will get to do an easy hike through the forest, arriving at the gorgeous waterfall. We’ll swim under the falls, visit Biausevu Village, and participate in a kava ceremony. From there, we’ll drive to Natadola Beach, another iconic location in Fiji, famous for its stunning white sand and turquoise waters.
We’ll be back at the resort late in the afternoon, where we can sit by the pool and watch the sunset.
Accommodations: Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa
Meals: Breakfast
Today we have the option of going on a super fun tour to Robinson Crusoe Island. It’ll be a super fun day where we’ll get to learn about Fijian culture and enjoy a tropical Fijian island. We’ll have a Lovo buffet lunch, watch a Fijian dance show, take a Fijian cooking class, and also snorkel, kayak, and enjoy the beach.
Again, we’ll be back late in the afternoon and, unfortunately, have to enjoy another beautiful sunset from our resort. 😉
Accommodations: Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa
Meals: Breakfast
Oh yeah! You didn’t think we were going to Fiji — once known as the “Cannibal Islands” — and not check out something related to that, did you??
Today’s optional tour is to Naihehe Cave, the fortress of Fiji’s last cannibal tribes! We’ll learn about Fiji’s fascinating history, including the legendary practices of cannibalism, through captivating stories from our guide. We’ll see a ritual platform, the priest chamber, and the cannibal’s oven!
The tour also includes off-road driving through the forest and canoeing on the river. What a fun day!
And I hate to break it to you, but at around 6:30pm you will have to watch another beautiful sunset sipping a drink by the beach…
Accommodations: Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa
Meals: Breakfast
Today’s optional tour is the breathtaking Jewel of Fiji Tour. The day starts with a longboat ride along the pristine Navua River, with the enchanting sights and sounds of nature surrounding us. The journey continues with a magical opportunity to swim in the mesmerizing waterfalls that cascade down from the lush rainforest.
Next, we’ll embark on an exhilarating bamboo rafting experience, gliding along the gentle river currents. We finish with a visit to a traditional Fijian village, where we’ll have the privilege of immersing ourselves in the rich local culture and enjoy a lovo lunch.
In the evening, we’ll plan a special Thanksgiving dinner for the group but not before you are forced to watch yet another gorgeous sunset!
Accommodations: Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa

This wouldn’t be a 1000 Treks trip if we didn’t have at least one day of fun and exciting activities. So today is the day we’ll plan adventures all day. Fiji is an adventure paradise, and the Coral Coast is where you’ll find them all. Here are our choices:
Ziplining and abseiling into a cave (that’s right — we’ll get to do both in the same outing!)
ATV
Jet Skiing
Parasailing
Jet Boating
Whitewater Rafting
River Tubing
E-biking on a track
Horseback Riding on the Beach
Depending on how the schedule flows, you should be able to do at least two activities if you want. About two months before the trip, I’ll send out a form for you to pick what you want, and then I’ll plan the groups, transportation, etc. But go ahead and get excited and start thinking about which activity — or activities — you want to do!
Accommodations: Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa
Meals: Breakfast
For our last full day in Fiji, we’ll go on an all-day cruise on the magnificent 100-foot schooner Whale’s Tale to four islands, where we’ll get to snorkel, kayak, play beach volleyball, and have all the fun we can handle for our final outing.
The outing is included, and everything is covered — including a champagne breakfast, a buffet lunch on an island, soft drinks, and even beer and wine. This will be the perfect way to end our amazing trip!
Accommodations: Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa or similar
Meals: Breakfast, and lunch
Well, our trip to paradise has come to an end.
However, we still have an entire day to enjoy Fiji one last time. All the flights to the U.S. leave late in the evening, so although we have to check out from the hotel, they can store our luggage, and we can still enjoy the pool, the beach, the village, and have the chance to see one last sunset right before we get on our shuttle to the airport to say “ni sa moce” to Fiji.

Shuttles will be provided if you meet the flight guidelines below:
Arrival: Arrive at Nadi International Airport (NAN) on Sunday, November 23, between 5:00 am and 5:40 am. Fiji Airways flights from the U.S. arrive at those times. Check-in at the hotel is at 3:00 PM.
Departure: Leave Nadi International Airport (NAN) on Sunday, November 30, between 9:40 pm and 10:15 pm. Fiji Airways flights to the U.S. leave at those times. Check-out from the hotel is at 11:00 AM.
Fiji Airways direct flights from the U.S. depart from LAX or SFO at 10:05 pm or 10:45 pm. The flight is only about 11 hours long, but we cross the International Date Line, so we leave on Friday night and arrive on Sunday morning at either 5:00 or 5:40 am. (Yep, we lose a day on the way there!)
The good news? The return flights leave at 9:40 pm or 10:15 pm, which means we get a true full day on our last Sunday — and we still arrive back in the U.S. on Sunday, around noon. We actually land earlier than we left!
In order to give you choices — and also to keep the cost of the basic package lower — many of the activities are listed as optional (cost not included). This way, you can also control how much you want to spend.
For the sake of transparency, we’re listing the approximate costs for the activities. We’ll start signing up for activities about two months before the trip. Prices might change a little by then, and can also vary depending on how many people join each activity.
Here are the prices as of right now:
Biausevu Waterfall and Natadola Beach: $121
Fiji Culture Tour at Robinson Crusoe Island: $106
Cannibal Cave Tour: $68
Jewel of Fiji Tour: $90
Thanksgiving Dinner: To be determined on-site. It’ll depend on what we decide to do, but it shouldn’t be expensive.
Fun Activities on Friday: From $50 and up — most are around $100
Travel insurance is required. You must provide a copy of your insurance policy to 1000 Leagues Travel no later than seven (7) days after your final payment for the trip.
Some countries impose taxes such as VAT, hotel taxes, city taxes, etc. While they’re usually small, they can pop up unexpectedly and must be paid on the spot. These are the traveler’s responsibility.
Because of the adventurous nature of our trips, we sometimes need to make changes to the itinerary, schedule, accommodations, amenities, or transportation. These changes are rare but do happen, and when they do, we’ll do our best to maintain the integrity of the trip.
VISA: As of now, American citizens don’t need a visa for Fiji as long as the stay is under 30 days. If you have a foreign passport, you might need one. Here’s the Fiji Embassy website to check.
We also recommend everyone — regardless of citizenship — periodically verify that visa requirements haven’t changed, as 1000 Treks is not responsible for any updates in visa policies.
