After breakfast, we fly to New Delhi and jump straight into a completely different side of India.
Today we will explore both Old Delhi and New Delhi: the winding, crowded alleys of the old city and the wide, airy avenues of the new capital. We will visit Jama Masjid, one of the great mosques of India, with its towering minarets and striking red sandstone and white marble design.
Then we dive into the beautiful chaos of Chandni Chowk by rickshaw. This is India in full color: crowded lanes, street food, spices, fabric, honking, smells, movement, and life everywhere. It may be a little wild, but that is exactly why we are doing it!
We will pass in front of the Red Fort, whose red sandstone walls stretch for more than two kilometers, and continue to Raj Ghat, the memorial where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated.
We will finish with a visit to Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, one of Delhi’s most important Sikh temples. With its golden dome, sacred pool, peaceful atmosphere, and tradition of service, this will be a beautiful introduction to Sikh culture before we visit Amritsar later in the trip.
