DAY 8 - SATURDAY, MARCH 13: GOLDEN TEMPLE | LANGAR HALL | JALLIANWALA BAGH | TRAIN TO DELHI

This morning, we return to the Golden Temple and experience it again in daylight. Seeing it both at night and during the day allows us to appreciate two completely different atmospheres, and it is far too beautiful and important to visit only once.

We will also visit the Langar Hall, the extraordinary community kitchen of the Golden Temple, and the largest community kitchen in the world. Every day, volunteers prepare and serve between 75,000 and 100,000 free meals with incredible efficiency, humility, and generosity. It is one of the most beautiful expressions of Sikh love and service.

We will then visit Jallianwala Bagh, the memorial marking one of the most tragic events of the British colonial period in India. It will be a sobering but important contrast to the peace and openness of the Golden Temple.

After lunch at a good authentic Amritsar restaurant, we will board the 15:10-22:30 train to Delhi. The ride will give us time to rest, watch India pass by outside the windows, and recover from a very full couple of days.

We arrive late in Delhi and go straight to our hotel.
